Established in 2000, Honeycare is an innovative private sector social enterprise promoting sustainable community-based beekeeping in Eastern Africa. It was set up with a triple bottom-line agenda, with emphasis on generating economic, social and environmental value through its activities. As a member of IFAT, Honeycare provides guaranteed market for honey produced at fair-trade prices. We have recently received HACCP Certification, an International quality and food safety certification.
We support over 9,000 small-scale beekeepers, most of whom are women, with over 17,000 Langstroth hives across rural Kenya helping them earn a supplementary income. Close to 3,000 rural households rely on this make the difference between living above or below the poverty line. Please buy our honey and help support our efforts to promote sustainable beekeeping!
Honeycare Africa
Honey Care Africa started its operations in 2000 as an NGO with the aim of connecting environment conservation and supporting rural farmers involved in beekeeping. We would offer hives, beekeeping equipment and training in beekeeping, ultimately offering a ready market by purchasing the honey harvested at fair trade prices. Indeed, Honey Care Africa has a rich history as a pioneer in the honey industry in Africa and honey enterprise in general.
In 2012 the company embarked on transitioning from an NGO to an FMCG company with a focus on expanding the business and introducing new products in the wider market.
Today we buy honey, nuts (peanuts and cashew nuts) and seeds (Simsim) from smallholder farmers across the East African region. All these are processed into honey products, butters and snacks, and packed in different brands to meet the varying needs of the market across the country.
We pride ourselves as a social impact enterprise focusing on honey and healthy honey based snacks. Honey Care products are distributed in supermarkets, general trade, as well as hotels and institutions across the country.
