Pharma / Medical

Cotonou , Benin

The Central Purchasing of Essential Drugs and Medical Consumables (CAME) was created in 1989 following the disappearance of two (2) structures that were once responsible for the country's supply of pharmaceuticals. This is the National Office of Pharmacy (ONP) liquidated in 1987 and the National Supply Pharmacy (Pharmapro) dissolved in 1988.

CAM started operations in 1991 and played four (4) years as a component of Project Development of Health Services (PDSS) financed by the World Bank and the Swiss Cooperation. In 1996, it acquires its administrative autonomy, financial and management with the adoption of its constitution. She is responsible for supplying public health facilities and private nonprofit and pharmacy of essential generic medicines and medical consumables necessities.

CAM is an institution governed by the provisions of general law and subject to government control requirement for the execution of a public health social mission. She has a new office based in Cotonou and three (3) Regional Agencies ( Cotonou, Parakou and Natitingou ) that supply all health facilities nationwide. The size of the CAM at 30 November 2014 is 96 (ninety six) agents. Currently, CAM uses its own funds to finance its operations, investments and renew its stock to meet customer demand.
