ACCAT (Nigeria) Limited is Nigeria's premier distributor of telecommunications equipment. Founded in January 2000 by Peter Sinnott (MD) it represents some of the world's leading manufacturers and is the preferred supplier to many of Nigeria's GSM operators, PTOs, VSAT operators and 'cell-site-build' contractors.
Operating from a facility comprising 2,880 square metres of warehousing and offices in Ogba, Lagos, ACCAT has established a reputation as a reliable and affordable supplier of infrastructure equipment to the telecoms industry.
ACCAT signed a distribution agreement in year 2000 with Andrew Corporation to become its official representative in Nigeria. Andrew is a US$2bn revenue quoted company with manufacturing facilities across the world. It manufactures a comprehensive range of telecoms products including RF cables, connectors and accessories, towers, microwave and satellite antennas.
In 2001 Accat signed two more distribution agreements, firstly with Codan, an Australian quoted company and manufacturer of satellite and microwave radios, shortly followed by Radyne Comstream a US quoted company and manufacturer of satellite modems. Further agreements have since been established with Africa Tower and JK Shelters in South Africa for towers and equipment shelters.
This combination has provided ACCAT with a comprehensive range of products to sell into the Nigerian telecoms market. ACCAT's current offering includes towers, RF cables and accessories, GSM and microwave antennas, equipment shelters, AVRs and rectifiers, satellite antennas, transceivers, BUCs, modems and microwave radios.
The Company also offers a range of installation services including civil works and tower erection, satellite earth station installation and commissioning, and equipment shelter assembly. This, combined with Accat's newly opened Repair Service Centre, which is certified by Codan and Radyne Comstream to perform both warranty and out-of warranty repairs, provides Accat with a comprehensive and complimentary product and service offering.
Nigeria's telecom industry has seen unprecedented growth since the beginning of 2001 when the first GSM licences were issued. Starting from an estimated fixed-line subscriber base of approximately 400,000 in year 2000 serving a population of around 130 million people, Nigeria currently boasts over 30m subscribers, albeit mostly mobile. With expectations of further massive growth over the next five years, this figure is forecast to rise to 100 million by 2010.
