Poncini is a leading dealer in luxury items like jewellery made in its sister companies and exports to Europe and to the United States. The company also markets fine jewellery on the local market since a package of incentives (Duty free) was given to the industry by the government. A team of 75 workers and collaborators are busy creating and manufacturing high quality products in a modern workshop.
In the watch industry, PONCINI has set up a state-of-the-art centre recognised by the most prestigious brands. A network of high standard shops (17) offering high quality watches for sale are operating around the island. Nevertheless the old colonial style house in Port Louis also hosting the Swiss General Consulate remains the attraction.
PONCINI played an active role in industrial development of the Mauritian economy and was the pioneer in setting up non sugar agricultural enterprises. In 1966 the first export oriented enterprise (drilling of rubies for the watch industry) was launched. This unit became a model for the future free zone activity. In 1970 the first diamond cutting factory started its operations. Ever since PONCINI concentrated its efforts on technology acquisition and expertise in technologies like metallurgy and stone setting. Two sister companies started operating in 1984 and 1994 (Les Ambassadeurs Ltd and General Findings & Wires Ltd.)
By acquiring foreign technology, the group is now equipped with modern and state of the art equipment. Its’ personnel, all Mauritian, are regularly trained by foreign experts in specialised fields. The expertise and quality achievements have given the opportunity to the group to have access to the US and European markets and also to offer subcontract work on high quality standards with a maximum security.
