It all began in 2002, when founders Frank Artress and Susan Gustafson had their own medical crisis while traveling in Tanzania. Starting with a mobile medical service to remote locations in Tanzania, FAME now operates a full service medical facility in Karatu, Tanzania.
FAME advances high-quality, accessible healthcare through our outpatient clinic, inpatient hospital, laboratory, radiology department, and maternal, newborn, reproductive and child health services.
Dedication to our patients.
FAME is only able to continue serving our community because of the immense generosity of our donors and partners, to whom we are deeply grateful. Become a part our FAME family by supporting our mission!
INPATIENT HOSPITAL
The FAME hospital has a 14-bed inpatient ward, a 9-bed maternity ward, two delivery rooms, an emergency room, night clinic, two operating rooms, and a recovery room.
OUTPATIENT CLINIC
Opening in 2008, our outpatient clinic is where we see the majority of our patients. Here, we provide comprehensive primary care to about 100 patients every day.
SURGERY
While FAME established general surgery as a strategic priority area in early 2017, surgical intervention has been a part of our mission from the very beginning.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
With our own laboratory, x-ray machine, and CT scanner on campus, FAME is able to provide our doctors with comprehensive diagnostic services to serve our patients.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Working with Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and local clinics, FAME focuses our outreach on assisting TBAs and hosting neurology clinics in the Karatu district.
