The company was established in 1939 as an agricultural equipment manufacturer and thereafter merged with CT Bolts in 2006 and Tassburg in 2008. It is now comprised of three divisions, Mealie-Brand, CT Bolts and Tassburg. Zimplow commenced business in 1939 as the Rhodesian Plough and Machinery Company Limited. It was formed to ensure that animal drawn implement supplies to small scale farmers were unaffected by the Second World War. Up to that time, all agricultural implements were imported from Europe.

The division is involved in the manufacture and distribution of fasteners. It sells a complete range of mild steel bolts and nuts, nails and wood screws. The factory is based in Bulawayo but there is a branch in Harare.

C.T.Bolts initially started as an importer/distributor of fasteners. The Harare distribution outlet was set up in 1957 to cater for a growing market in that area. 

 

The factory, which is situated in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second largest city, was started in 1962 to cater for small requirements of customers and developed into the largest machine shop in the country specialising in fasteners. 

 

C.T.Bolts growth has been mainly contributed to its vast range of stock on hand, competitive pricing and the ability to manufacture non-standard items timorously and of good quality to satisfy the customers. 

 

The division is involved in the manufacture of animal drawn agricultural implements and hoes. It markets its products predominantly in Africa, South of the Sahara

"Mealie Brand" is the brand name under which Zimplow markets its products. Customers can be assured of quality with Mealie Brand products which are produced in an ISO 9001:2000 rated factory from materials that consistently meet quality specifications.

Today the company produces a complete range of animal drawn implements which cover the needs of the farmer from breaking the soil to planting the crop. The company actively courts agricultural research and development bodies so that it develops products accordingly.

The manufacturing plant is situated on a six hectare site in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. The company employs more than 300 people and markets its products throughout the region through experienced and professional agents.

Mealie Brand works closely with agricultural conservation and extension departments in Zimbabwe and endeavors to form similar relationships in the other regional markets in which it operates. The management of Mealie Brand firmly believes that animal drawn agricultural implements are not yesterday's technology. Any agriculturally based country in the under developed or developing category has need for small scale commercial farmers. The Mealie Brand Plough comes in three sizes, MB200 (35kgs), MB250 (35kgs) and MB300 (43kgs). The Mealie Brand MB200 & MB250 Ploughs are single furrow high performance ploughs that combine lightness in weight with sturdy construction for maximum strength and can be pulled by 4 donkeys or 2 oxen.

The division is involved in the manufacture of wood screws, verandah bolts, high tensile bolts and nuts. The factory is based in Harare.
