Mbuyekezo Boxing Channel (MBC) was founded in 2008 by three Directors; Siyabonga “Mbulelo” Copiso, Masibulele “Hawk” Makepula and Primrose Majiza. Its main objective is to use the power of broadcasting and media to promote the development of boxing in South Africa. MBC focuses in sporting codes that have been underserviced but have always demonstrated a huge potential. These sporting codes include boxing, cricket, rugby and to some extent soccer.

Mbuyekezo is a Nguni word which means “reward”. Mbuyekezo Boxing Channel (MBC) believes in rewarding athlete, trainers and managers who, for years, have contributed in the development of the sport of boxing in South Africa. Mbuyekezo Boxing Channel (MBC) is 100% black owned and controlled. The founding members of MBC share amongst them a wealth of experience in broadcasting policy, the sport of boxing, product marketing, branding and business. This is a youthful team which boasts with 25% women representation in its management committees.

MBC’s interests are to develop the sport of boxing and bring it back to its glory days. In the early 80’s, boxing used to be the number 1 most loved sport in South Africa. MBC will strive to achieve this goal by establishing a 24/7 boxing channel. MBC has partnered with some of the pay-tv platforms, which are still to be launched in order to offer its service.

MBC will promote boxing at grass roots level, introduce interesting programming and work towards attracting new sponsorships for the sport. Key to the success of MBC will be proper marketing of boxing and boxers themselves. MBC will raise the standard of broadcasting of boxing and will promote this sport using its various media platforms.

During the TV Blackout or the lack of broadcasting of boxing by the national broadcaster, MBC took upon itself to cover and can, on exclusive bases, more than 800 local fights. These fights are currently being archived. MBC is looking for the best opportunity and platform to broadcast these fights. MBC is proud of its success in covering these fights and it was not going to be possible without the support of local promoters and boxers. During this period MBC managed to cover boxing in all Provinces of South Africa (except N.Cape). Some of the content produced was only test-broadcasted under the Free-vision platform of SENTECH (PTY) LTD.
