Upanga, Tanzania

A deep passion for the essence of Swahili beauty brought Javed Jafferji and his wife Kulsum to establish Cinnamon Spa on Zanzibar’s island of Unguja. The concept for the spa arose in 2007 when Javed was creating a coffee table book titled, Safari Spa. He came to recognize then that there was a lack of quality Spas in Tanzania. After years of meticulous planning and detailed research into both modern and traditional therapies, Cinnamon Spa opened its doors to the public in December 2010.

Residents and visitors alike can now indulge in a unique experience inspired by the Swahili beauty rituals of old, and the natural Zanzibari environment. A heaven nestled in the heart of Stone Town, Cinnamon Spa offers over thirty therapies and treatments using the finest organic ingredients from the archipelago.

From sea salt and seaweed to an array of therapeutic spices found on the islands, the Cinnamon Spa experience is unique. Fusing the past with the present, treatments using organic Africology products are also offered. In July 2016, Cinnamon Spa opened its second branch in Dar es Salaam. Due to constant demand from loyal customers the Dar es Salaam branch opened in 2016 after nearly 6 months of planning. The Upanga branch is one of the biggest spas in the city with 5 treatment rooms, a full-fledged hamam, Vichy showers, a steam and Jacuzzi room and a professional salon with juice bar.

This is the first spa and saloon in Dar es Salaam, which will opening hours till late like the Zanzibar Shangani branches.. A third branch was inaugurated in August 2016, along with Jafferji House, a boutique property in the heart of stone Town when Amani Spa was rebranded as Cinnamon Spa. At Cinnamon Spa we are committed to providing our customers with a high standard of service.

Our team has approximately 20 highly trained therapists who also offer an Oriental and Moroccan element to the treatments. The Spa has an experienced team with years of experience under their belt. Cinnamon Spa’s beautiful interior is influenced by Morroccan and Swahili patterns, reflecting the Hamam baths of an era gone by. Adorned with decorative Swahili carvings and Moroccan carpets, rich, sumptuous hues are paired with antique furniture to complete the atmosphere. Karibuni sana. Products

The majority of our products are hand-made with locally sourced produce and spices such as coffee, sea salt, coconut, seaweed, cloves, rice, turmeric, and more. We source our products from local farmers and spice plantations, ensuring first hand that all produce is of a high quality and organic.

Our Africology products, however, are the only ones that are not sourced from the archipelago but are nonetheless the very best of organic products made in South Africa. These products are used for our ‘to die for’ facials. Our mini shop sells a selection of massage oils, soaps, organic teas and candles and more for some extra pampering at home!
