Twiga Chemical Industries was incorporated on 18th May 1949, then referred to as AECI (EA) Ltd. It was a subsidiary of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI),UK. By a Special Resolution passed on the 1st July 1962, the company was renamed ‘Twiga Chemical Industries Limited'. The Company engaged in the supply and distribution of Explosives, Agrochemicals, Industrial Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals. Some of the Agrochemicals were locally formulated or repacked in the Company’s Factory in Industrial Area, Nairobi.

In 1993, the AJ Group bought the controlling interest from ICI. In 2000, Animal Health Division was introduced with the intention of tapping the potential in this sector.??The Division has expanded over the years. 

 
In 2004, the company discontinued the Pharmaceuticals Division. In 2006 the company implemented an ERP system ( Oracle E-Business Suite) covering the entire business operations of the company. 
 
In 2008 the company completed a major modernization programme at the Toll Manufacturing Centre that involved laying of new roads, purchase of new powder and liquid filling machines and pollution control equipments. The laboratory acquired a new High Performance Liquid Chromatograph. In 2009 the entire company was certified ISO 9001:2008. 
 
The Company is managed by a team of experienced qualified professionals in each of its areas of business.
 
With excellence in focus, Twiga Chemicals has hit another milestone by introducing new products which is a major indicator of growth. After successful introduction of twiga epox and twiga eponil, focus is now on the following new products i.e. Katrin ( deltamethrin) ,Twigamectin (Abamectin),  Fantic ( fungicide) and Twiga AZ (fungicide). Farmers have every reason to smile.
 
With increase in demand for food security at small holder farmer and house hold levels through drip irrigation, twiga chemical broadened its scope of products by introducing small scale farmers irrigation kits. These come in the following categories i.e. bucket kit for 53m2, drum kit for 250m2 and drum kit for 465m2. 
 
Adoption of the products will propel following; eradication of extreme poverty and hunger in the target communities, wealth creation through high value agriculture, plays a key role in mitigating effects of climate change, increased household incomes, efficiency in land use and energy saving. All these aspects are key in development of any society/ community.
