The West African Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association was founded in 2005 and officially launched in 2007 at Accra, Ghana by His Excellency Aliu Mahama, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. The first elected President of WAPMA, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, was on hand for the occasion, which was recognized as part of the celebration of the 50th independence anniversary of the Republic of Ghana.
WAPMA's current membership comprises 30 member companies of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG), 100 member companies of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN) and one company from Cote d'Ivoire.
WAPMA promotes investments and creates knowledge based jobs, thereby improving competitiveness as well as public health.
WAPMA is committed to working with critical stakeholders and taking up the challenge of being the private sector voice in addressing some of the challenges that hinder the development and growth of the pharmaceutical industry in West Africa.
