Athi River Mining (Kenya) Ltd. was established in 1974 by as a mineral extraction and processing company and is now public limited company quoted on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. ARM is in the business of the manufacture of :- ¥ Cement ¥ Quick & Hydrated Lime ¥ Sodium Silicate ¥ Industrial Minerals ¥ Special Cements and building products ¥ Fertilizers ARM Ltd has two plants in Kenya ¥ Kaloleni Plant - manufacturing Lime and Cement ¥ Athi River Plant - manufacturing Industrial Minerals, Silicate, Special Cements, Fertilizers ARM has signed a joint venture agreement for setting up a lime plant in Mali with a capacity of 50 tpd. This would be servicing the gold mines in which are essentially the same as those being serviced by ARM in Tanzania. ARM owns 67% of ARM (Tanzania) Ltd which has a plant in Tanga that manufactures Lime for the Gold Mining Industry and industrial minerals. ARM is setting up a Sodium Silicate Plant in South Africa which would be commissioned start commercial production by July 2004. ARM employs over 700 staff directly and indirectly contributes to about 15,000 employment opportunities through its logistics and distribution networks. ARM exports over 30% of its products to countries in the sub-Saharan African region. It is the only ISO certified manufacturer of Cement and Lime in Kenya.
